Wellington, FL (February 22, 2019) – Rising to the top of a field of over 30 horses who lined up Wednesday at Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, Marky Bluman and Cupfer Cr bounded to victory during a windy day of show jumping on the Turf Tour. For the first time in 2019 the Turf Tour was held at the exceptional Jim Brandon Equestrian Center complex, located just ten minutes from Wellington’s main Showgrounds. Bluman and Cupfer could not be touched, and as the first round of the day led the class from wire to wire.

Cupfer Cr and Bluman’s initial double clear effort and scorching jump-off round resulted in a time of 30.463 seconds. Finisterra and Dana Escales came within a tenth of a second of Bluman’s time, finishing on 30.529 for second place. Willie Tynan and the always speedy mare Dominique rounded out the top three with a 31.245, and with KEC City Limits, a horse that has already won the Rising Star Classic once this year with Tynan at the helm, he blazed through the jump-off with a time of 29.409 but unfortunately had rails to keep the pair off the lead.

Held every Wednesday through April, the $5,000 Rising Star Classic is aimed at challenging developing horses and riders who have their sights on the Grand Prix. Bluman’s winnings include not only prize money but also a gel saddle pad from Impact Gel and points towards the year end prize of a golf cart, which will be awarded to the points leader of the Rising Star, Grand Prix, and 1.20M divisions combined!

Friday the Turf Tour continues at Jim Brandon, which boasts spacious warm-ups on excellent footing, ample trailer parking, a large covered in the case of inclement weather, permanent stabling, and amenities. The $15,000 Turf Tour Grand Prix will be set at 11:30am, with riders invited to walk shortly after. Each Turf Tour week through the end of March features spectacular show jumping on all-natural surfaces and full divisions from .80M to the 1.40 Grand Prix. Last week’s Grand Prix winner, Germany’s Christoph Shroeder, stated that jumping on the Turf Tour is a highlight of his winter season: “It’s always nice to jump on the grass, take the horses to different venues, and not have to worry about the footing. My stallion really enjoyed jumping [last week at Mida Farms] and it showed in his performance. We have been attending the Turf Tour pretty much since its inception, and will continue to do so as they really make it a wonderful experience for everyone.”

About the 2019 Wellington Turf Tour, Hunter Derby Days, USEF Equitation Tuesdays, and The Ridge Schooling Shows

The 2019 Wellington Turf Tour features 13-weeks of hunter, jumper, and equitation competition at all heights and prize money classes including weekly $15,000 1.40-1.45M Grand Prix and $5,000 1.30M Rising Star Classics, all held at beautiful venues in Wellington. This year’s destinations include The Ridge’s home farm, Black Watch Farm, Santa Rita Polo Farm, Mida Farm, Carben Farm, and Jim Brandon Equestrian Center.

The final Hunter Derby Day will be held March 9 at Jim Brandon Equestrian Center (about 10 minutes from the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center). The day will feature a $5,000 USHJA National Derby and a $15,000 USHJA International Derby, and the facility features top notch permanent stabling, spacious warm ups, ample parking, a large covered arena, and full amenities.

USEF Equitation Tuesday runs each Tuesday afternoon at The Ridge’s home farm (14415 Palm Beach Point Blvd) featuring pony equitation, adult equitation, junior equitation, and Medal Maclay.

The Turf Tour and its hunter/jumper/equitation events are a unique addition to Wellington’s winter circuit, offering riders top-tier competition, generous prize money, and an unparalleled atmosphere. Young horses and advancing riders are able to test their mettle in classes ranging from junior and amateur jumpers to the Grand Prix, and at a variety of venues reminiscent of the large European tours. Organized by US Olympic show jumper Nona Garson and George D’Ambrosio, the vision that inspired the tour’s conception was to stage competitions on turf and natural surfaces away from the intensity of other show grounds.
